REBUILD GIGAWATTS OF CAPACITY IN UKRAINE

Transformative Energy Infrastructure Projects

UDeP is working with National partners to rebuild Ukraine's energy landscape with transformative energy infrastructure projects.

We are developing a substantial pipeline of large-scale solar power installations integrated with advanced battery storage systems.

These projects aim to significantly enhance the grid's flexibility and responsiveness, providing robust solutions to the challenges posed by the vulnerability of centralized energy systems. By distributing energy production across multiple sites, we reduce vulnerabilities and ensure a more resilient and reliable power supply in the face of external threats and disruptions.

UDeP's first initiative, a 4-site project totalling 100 MW+ photovoltaics installation coupled with 300 MWh LFP battery storage , sets the precedent for future developments. This lighthouse project will demonstrate the feasibility and showcase the benefits of large-scale energy solutions designed for Ukraine's unique circumstances.

UDeP collaborates with international stakeholders and leverages the expertise of global pro-renewable and pro-decentralization experts. We work closely with lawmakers to establish policies that encourage investment in renewable energy, aiming for a secure and sustainable energy future for Ukraine.

Focusing on regulatory reforms, we strive to remove barriers and create incentives for adopting solar power and battery storage. By partnering with government agencies, industry leaders, and local communities, we promote policies that drive energy independence and economic resilience.

FINANCING BEHIND-THE METER ASSETS

Bringing longterm PPAs to Ukraine's C&I Sector

The UDeP initiative proposes the adoption of behind-the-meter solar and battery systems for commercial, industrial, and residential users across Ukraine. Through the establishment of a debt fund, supported by international and Ukrainian investors, this initiative aims to provide the financial backing necessary for businesses to achieve resilience on a grid that is at risk of blackouts, ensuring continuous operation even during disruptions.

These combined PV plus battery solutions have the potential to function as virtual power plants, offering services to Distribution System Operators (DSOs) and Transmission System Operators (TSOs) such as reserve capacity, frequency and demand response. By reducing power loads during shoulder hours and storing excess solar power in the batteries, the initiative helps to reduce the strain on the power grid. This decentralized approach ensures a reliable power supply and optimizes grid performance and stability.

Andreas Nicolet

Andreas Nicolet, a Danish and Swiss national, has a 15-year career in the solar and renewable energy space, specializing in international business development and project financing of decentralied solar energy and energy storage projects in both the USA and Europe.

Oleksandr Kharchenko

Oleksandr Kharchenko is a pivotal figure in Ukraine's energy sector, serving as the Director of the Energy Industry Research Center. His work encompasses significant advisory roles with Ukrainian government entities, including the Ministry of Regional Development and Ukrenergo. Oleksandr has been instrumental in enhancing Ukraine’s energy resilience amid geopolitical tensions. His expertise in data analytics, policy advocacy, and strategic planning supports Ukraine’s transition to a sustainable energy future

Roman Zinchenko

Roman Zinchenko, Ukranian, co-founded Greencubator in 2009, significantly advancing green startups and sustainable innovations in Ukraine. He has organized prominent green energy events, advised numerous energy projects, and lectured at top Ukrainian business schools. His extensive experience and strategic insights has established him as a key figure in navigating Ukraine's renewable energy sector and political landscape.

Vitaliy Radchenko

Vitaliy Radchenko is the Managing Partner and Head of Energy & Climate Change at CMS Cameron McKenna Nabarro Olswang in Kyiv. He also co-chairs the Fuel and Energy Committees of the American Chamber of Commerce of Ukraine.

Vitaliy advises UDeP in his personal capacity due to his specialization within financing and regulatory advice on power generation and clean tech projects and more.

Ranked by Chambers Europe 2012-2022 as a Band 1 Energy & Natural Resources lawyer, Vitaliy is noted for his outstanding knowledge of the Ukrainian energy sector. He is also a leading lawyer for Energy by Legal 500 2012-2023.

Danny Kennedy, Australian co-founder of US-based Sungevity and former CEO of New Energy Nexus, has been advancing decentralized solar and energy storage solutions globally for two decades. He has led initiatives supporting clean energy entrepreneurs with funding and resources through major organizations like CalCharge and CalSEED. Kennedy has also co-founded Powerhouse, an incubator for smart energy startups, fostering innovation and collaboration in the renewable energy sector.

Alina Swiderska

Ms. Swiderska graduated from the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy and the University of Cambridge and has ten years of experience in the energy sector. Professionally, she is currently the CEO of Scatec in Ukraine. She was an adviser to the Minister of Economy and actively participated in reforms. As a volunteer, she is involved in educational and charitable projects within the Cambridge community of Ukraine.
